Week One: Wind Energy

This week, I wanted to talk about one of the most controversal types of alternative energy; Wind energy. Many people have only heard about wind energy and not actually looked anything up about it. When I was looking it up, I found a very helpful website that not only talks about wind turbines, but how wind is formed, how wind turbines work, and where the best, most productive areas for wind farms in the united states should be.

Check it out here: http://www.eia.doe.gov/kids/energy.cfm?page=wind_home-basics

  1. This was a good article! I agree that people need to do a better job in educating themsleves about new ways of collecting energy. Why do you think that we aren't using wind energy more in the US?

  2. Is using wind for energy in places like Cincinnati really worth it? And do you think that we should have more around?

  3. Morgan: Thanks! and I think one of the main reasons we aren't using wind energy is that people are more concerned about the fact that wind farms are usually noisy and considered an eyesore. Wind turbines can also sometimes kill or injure small animals such as bats or small birds.
Courtney: I think that wind farms in Cincinnti would be hard to set up because we live is such a hilly area and usually rural areas are used for growing crops, so we don't have much space for wind farms. However, I think they would be very useful in places where there is an abundance of unused flat land. Also, even if we dont have wind farms in Cincinnati, it doesnt mean we can't get wind energy from nearby wind farms.
